Angling Ireland

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 18 July 2026

This privacy policy applies to the Angling Ireland mobile app and the fishing conditions widget available at forecast.anglingireland.ie (together, the “Service”). We keep things simple: the Service is built to show you fishing, weather, and tide conditions around Ireland — not to collect your personal data.

Our promise to anglers: we will never share your geographic location or any information you add in the app with anyone. Not with advertisers, not with data brokers, not with any third party. Ever.

We know your marks and spots are hard-earned. That's why we go one step further: we don't keep a record of where you fish. Your device's coordinates are used only in the moment, to answer your request for local conditions, and are never stored against you or your device. The one narrow exception is entirely in your hands: if you switch on wind alerts for a mark, we must remember that choice in order to send the alert — see “Wind alerts” below. Switch the alert off and that record is deleted straight away.

What we collect

Wind alerts

Wind alerts are an optional feature, switched on by tapping the bell in the app. To make them work, our server keeps a small record consisting of:

This record is used for one purpose only: sending you wind-change notifications. It is never shared with anyone, never used for advertising or profiling, and is not linked to your name, email, or identity (we don't have those). Notifications are delivered through your phone platform's standard push service (Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android), which is how all app notifications reach Android phones.

Deleting it is instant and in your control: tap the bell again to switch an alert off and the record for that mark is removed from our server immediately. Turning off all alerts, revoking the notification permission, or uninstalling the app removes everything.

What we don't do

Location permission

Location access is entirely optional. If you decline the permission, you can still browse all fishing locations manually — the app simply won't be able to sort them by distance from you. You can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.

Data stored on your device

Preferences such as your recently viewed locations are stored locally on your device only. They never leave your phone and are deleted if you uninstall the app.

Third-party data sources

The Service displays environmental data (weather, tides, marine conditions) retrieved from public and licensed data providers. Requests to our server for this data include only the coordinates or location name being looked up — nothing that identifies you.

Children

The Service is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

Angling Ireland is actively growing, and this policy will evolve with it. As new features are added — for example, a fishing log or catch diary — the app may begin recording new kinds of information, such as your catches, notes, or photos. If and when that happens, this policy will be updated here before those features go live, explaining clearly what is recorded, where it is stored, and how it is protected.

Two things will not change: any information you add will remain yours, and our promise above stands — we will never share your locations or your information with third parties. We recommend checking this page from time to time; the effective date at the top will always show when it was last updated.
